30 Day Blog Challenge: Day 2 – The meaning behind your Blog name (also reader advice needed)

blog 30 Day Blog Challenge: Day 2 The meaning behind your Blog name (also reader advice needed)

Wow this is a tough one to answer… To be honest it too me a very long time to come up with a blog name.  I’m not the most creative person in the world, so things like naming a blog or even naming my fantasy football team takes me ages.  LOL

As for the actual title, insignificant at best, explains my state of mind when I started this blog back in 2010.  If you read my posts from back then they are very different from the things I write about now.  This blog was created when I was in a much “darker” place in my life.  At the time I remember thinking “who the heck cares about what I have to say?”.

I’ve since changed my state of mind and my way of thinking, but I still don’t mind the title.  I look at it more from a sarcastic point-of-view now.  I mean the truth is, I’m one person out of billions and this is one blog out of millions…I really am insignificant at best, in the grand scheme of things.  Now I know this is not true to my family and friends, but it still fits when you think about me in comparison to all of the people in this world.  LOL

This topic brings up a great point though…The following was told to me by someone that reviewed me on Link Referral “I feel the title ‘insignificant at best’ is going to turn off potential readers of your blog. That’s a darn shame because your writing is very perceptive, sharp and quite entertaining too.”  I have to admit that this has crossed my mind in the past.   Do you guys agree?  Should I think about changing my title?  I know it’s just one person’s opinion, but if it has also occurred to me so I’m sure it has occurred to others too.  Please share your honest thoughts!  I’d like to know what all of you are thinking!

  1. I like it! To me, it gets people's attentions…I want to see if you really are insignificant, like you say. Besides, a title is only to pull readers in. To keep readers coming back is based on our opinions of writing styles and for the most part, content. For my name, Far From Camelot, I was thinking about how detached my life was from the ideals of "Camelot" and the phrase just came to me. No perfection here and also, who would want to read what I have to say? Stick out from the crowd and get noticed as something different from a niche blog. I think you do that!

      Beth,

I really appreciate the kind words. You're right, I do like that my blog name sticks out. It's funny you should respond to this topic, because I ran across your blog yesterday and marked it to come back and take a look when I had some time. The reason why? The name of your blog caught my eye. :)

  2. Well since you asked, I think just the opposite. Most people think too highly of themselves. I like the title BUT what really matters is what you think. It also matters if you are specifically trying to attract new readers and increase your subscribers.

If you want to increase your readership first thing you need to do is visit other blogs and leave plenty of comments. My blogs name is counter productive but I like it too much to change. It seems that when people actually read what I write the name means less and less.

      Tom,

Thank you so much for your advice! To be honest, I LOVE your blog name. LOL It's actually what attracted me to your blog in the first place and I'm glad it did because I love your blog! :)

  3. Actually, your tittle is one of the things that intrigued me. I often reflect on how Facebook, Twitter, blogging and such are enhancing a narcissistic view of the world. It was refreshing to me to see someone partaking of those but doing so from such a considered place. So my vote's for that it's both effective and awesome, FWIW!

      Deborah,

Thank you, that is so sweet of you to say! I am truly humbled by your words!

  4. Lisa,
I think you can get both camps. Some people will see it as negative and think, I don't want to read more complaining from someone, and others will look deeper into your writings. You could flip it around to something like, "The best of insignificance". That would cover
a lot of meanings. By the way, thank you so much for coming by Mommy LaDy Club, and for your comment. If you do get going on a "one piece makeover", please let me know, and I would love to do an interview with you about it. I have our first interview with a Mom blogger coming next week with her makeover, and another lined up. It's just a lot of fun to highlight what everyone is doing! You can always reach me at ladyladuke@ladyladuke.com
    Cheers!

      Courtney,

Thank you! I will definitely let you know if I decide to give it a try! As for my blog name, I've decided to keep it. I'm definitely looking for people who are willing to take the time to read what I've written, instead of making snap judgments. :)

  5. WOW!!! I LOVE THE PICTURE OF YOUR WEDDING!!! :)
